One post every 6 months??

OK, so I started a blog in January. It is now July. I think we can all agree I'm off to a great start. Because I really need to write a post and am not coming up with anything super exciting at the moment, I'm going to copy one of those "List interesting things about yourself" entries that I've stolen from my sister's blog.

A. Age: 26
B. Bed size: Queen
C. Chore that you hate: Grocery shopping and putting clean clothes away are definitely my least favorite chores. Which is interesting considering I love to cook and don't mind actually doing the laundry.
D. Dogs: I want a bulldog soooo badly.
E. Essential start to your day: Coffee
F. Favorite color: Green
G. Gold or Silver: Silver, although I also have some gold and like them both
H. Height:  5'6"
I. Instruments you play: Oboe and piano (kinda) I took piano lessons but they didn't really take to me
J. Job title: Executive Manager, Early Childhood Advisory Council of West Virginia
K. Kids: 0
L. Live: Charleston, WV
M. Mother's name: Susan (many call her Sue but she prefers Susan)
N. Nicknames: I really don't have many nicknames. My sister and one friend from elementary school call me Gretch, a few people call me G, and college nicknames include G-retchen, G-to-the-retchen, and Gretch-Face.
O. Overnight hospital stays: I stayed in the hospital when I was about two for a week or so (Pertussis!) but I don't remember it. Since then: 0 stays.
P. Pet peeves: Lack of common sense. People who don't dress for their body type. Dumbness. When people mispronounce Appalachian. When people (read: my husband) leave dirty dishes and gum wrappers all over the house.
Q. Quote from a movie: "Why would God make us all so different if he wanted us to be the same?"--Saved "My name is Andrew Shepherd and I am the President."--American President "Last night I was sleeping under a bridge and tonight I'm having dinner with you fine people!"--Titanic
R. Right- or left-handed: Right
S. Siblings: One sister
U. Underwear: I'm a fan.
V. Vegetable(s) you hate:  I don't have a problem with most veggies. I don't like broccoli or lima beans though.
W. What makes you run late: Husband
X. X-Rays you've had: Ankle (broken in 7th grade), chest (breathing issues as a kid)
Y. Yummy food that you make: I like to cook and do it a lot. I make a mean spaghetti and meatballs and a killer chicken pot pie.
Z. Zoo animal: Monkeys, just because.

A Year In Review

I'm sure that I will steal blog ideas from my sister quite frequently, at least in the beginning days of this blog. I've stolen this one. I figured a "Year in Review" post is as good a way as any to start off a new blog in a new year.

*I apologize in advance for all the wedding references. It is unavoidable as 2011 will go down as the "Year of the Wedding." Just be glad I wasn't blogging through it...

1. What did you do in 2011 that you’d never done before? Got married!
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions? I don’t think I had New Year’s resolutions last year…starting this year. I always say I’m going to start working out…which I did for a while but it fizzled.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? Nope.

4. Did anyone close to you die? Ryan’s grandmother.

5. What countries did you visit? No other countries.

6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011? 1) More relaxation (learn to let small stuff go) and 2) better control of finances.

7. What dates from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? January 29th: I got engaged, February 19th: First (of many!) Annual PC Girls Weekend, April 29th: Waking up early and watching the Royal Wedding with my sister (and then watching it four more times that day), and of course November 5: I got married!

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Honestly, my wedding. I am so proud of how the wedding turned out and the fact that we didn’t go bankrupt (or force our parents into bankruptcy). The biggest complement I received on the wedding was from my great-aunt who said: “That was the most elaborate yet unpretentious wedding I’ve ever been to.” That was exactly what I wanted!

9. What was your biggest failure? Biggest? I don’t know about biggest failure—but I definitely need to work on stress management.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Aside from a handful of colds, and the bronchitis that wouldn’t go away, I’ve been pretty healthy.

11. What was the best thing you bought? I actually bought very little this year…mainly because I was saving for the wedding. However, wedding dress, assorted awesome cocktail dresses and my iPhone are all on the list!

12. Where did most of your money go? Wedding. Car issues.

13. What did you get really excited about? My wedding. My bridal showers. Travel plans and visits with friends and family.

14. What song will always remind you of 2011? I Was Glad: Processional at Royal Wedding that I’ve listened to 1,000,001 times. The Avett Brothers: Ryan’s go to “Road Trip” soundtrack. Joyeuse March: My wedding processional that I pretty much listened to on loop in my car for 5 months.

15. Compared to this time last year, are you happier or sadder? Thinner or fatter? Richer or poorer? Same. Same. Richer (emphasis on the “er”. It is amazing what not saving for a wedding and having two incomes will do for ya!)

16. What do you wish you’d done more of? Kept in touch more regularly with friends. Relaxing and enjoying my husband (at the time, fiancĂ©)

17. What do you wish you’d done less of? Over-planning.

18. How did you spend Christmas? In Tennessee with my parents/sister/husband then in Inwood with in-laws.

19. What was your favorite TV program? Modern Family, Glee, Grey’s Anatomy, Dexter and Big Bang Theory stand out.

20. What were your favorite books of the year? I hate to say it because I’ll get a huge “Told Ya So!” from my sister, but I finally started the Harry Potter books…and kinda love them.

21. What was your favorite music from this year? Adele's entire 21 album.

22. What were your favorite films of the year? I honestly have seen very few movies this year. I can’t come up with anything…wow.

23. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? Easter fell on my birthday this year so I spent a good bit of time at church. But the rest of the day was spent with my husband and grandparents (my grandfather and I share the same birthday.)

24. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? Honestly, it was a pretty fantastic year—I don’t know of anything I would have added or subtracted.

25. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011? Comfortable and Cute. Honestly, flats and scarves are probably my everyday staples. I also tend to buy cute dresses that I don’t wear enough.

26. What kept you sane? My friends and family. Wine. Cooking.

27. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011. Having your family and friends from all of your different phases of life in one room at one time is the greatest thing in the world.
28: What do you want to accomplish/do in 2012? 1) Settle into and enjoy marriage, 2) take more pictures, 3) be better at staying in touch with friends, and 4) save for a house.

So apparently I'm lame.

My sister has a blog. And when she floated the idea of starting a blog in December of 2007, the snarky-college-student-me responded with: "...really? Isn't that for lame people in their 30s?"

Well here I am--giving my sister yet another "Told Ya So!" moment. I'm not 30 yet, but I am lame so I figured I'd start this blog. We will see how this goes.
